Planning Authority halts illegal heavy vehicle parking in Kampong Masin

The Planning Authority has taken enforcement action against the unauthorised parking and storage of heavy vehicles and machinery on residential land in Kampong Masin, Mukim Pengkalan Batu, after the activity was found to be in breach of the Town and Country Planning Act (Chapter 248).

In a statement, the authority said two companies had been using four residential lots to park and store heavy vehicles and machinery without first obtaining planning permission, contrary to Section 23(2) of the Act.

The premises, which are approved for residential use, were being used for activities incompatible with the designated land use.

The Planning Authority said such activities could negatively affect the wellbeing of nearby residents by creating safety hazards, increasing noise and traffic disturbances, and causing damage to public roads and infrastructure.

It stressed that the parking and storage of heavy vehicles and machinery should only be carried out in designated industrial areas that are appropriately planned and equipped to accommodate such operations.

Following enforcement action, both companies ceased the unauthorised activities and relocated their operations to a designated industrial area in compliance with planning requirements.

The Planning Authority reminded the public that any development or change in land use without prior planning permission is an offence under Section 23 of the Town and Country Planning Act.

The area cleared following the notice.

Offenders may face a fine of up to BND200,000 and, for continuing offences, an additional fine of up to BND10,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.

Members of the public seeking planning advice or wishing to lodge a complaint may contact the Town and Country Planning Department hotline at 8200 222.
