The Cyber Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) continues its effort to raise public awareness on cybercrime threats through two separate ‘Cybercrime Awareness’ briefings held recently at the Sports School and the Institute of Public Administration (IPA).
The briefing at the Sports School was attended by Principal Alexander bin Badang alongside 26 teaching staff and 152 Year 7 and Year 9 students. Meanwhile, the briefing held in conjunction with the Retirement Preparation Programme at IPA was attended by 37 participants comprising civil servants preparing to enter retirement.
Both briefings were conducted by Chief Inspector Adinin bin Haji Ahmad, who provided an overview of various forms of online scams, including impersonation scams involving individuals posing as bank officers, police officers, or government officials, as well as e-commerce scams and fraudulent part-time job offers targeting specific groups.
Participants were also reminded of the dangers of becoming “money mules” through handing over, lending, or renting out their bank accounts and SIM cards to others. Participants were introduced to the Anti-Scam Helpline 16993 as a dedicated channel for seeking advice and assistance when encountering scams or suspicious activities.
Through its outreach efforts targeting various segments of society, the RBPF will continue to strengthen its cybercrime education and prevention initiatives to encourage greater vigilance and assist members of the public in safeguarding themselves, their accounts, and their personal information within the digital environment.
