Prioritise health, women told at breast cancer awareness forum

A breast cancer survivor shared her personal journey and experiences, speaking about how she found the strength to face the challenges, during a Breast Cancer Awareness and Women’s Health Forum organised by the International Women’s Club Brunei (IWCB) titled ‘Pinktober 2026: Empowering Women Through Awareness, Prevention and Support’ on October 2, 2026.

She also offered words of encouragement and motivation, emphasising the importance of staying strong, maintaining hope and drawing on the support of family, friends and the community.

Held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the forum brought together more than 70 participants, including members of the diplomatic corps, healthcare professionals, students and members of the public, to promote awareness, prevention and support.

In her welcoming remarks, IWCB President Ungku Datin Hajah Fanzah Osman emphasised that breast cancer continues to touch the lives of many families and communities, making awareness, early detection and support more important than ever.

She highlighted the club’s belief that empowering women with knowledge is one of the most meaningful ways it can contribute to the well-being of the community.

She encouraged women to prioritise their health, seek medical advice when needed and help spread accurate health information within their families, workplaces and communities.

The forum featured Dr Sonal Tripathi of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital who delivered a presentation on breast cancer awareness, covering risk factors, warning signs, screening methods and the importance of early detection.

Dr Si Lay Khaing of Jerudong Park Medical Centre spoke on women’s health and wellbeing, highlighting preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles and ways to maintain physical and emotional wellbeing throughout different stages of life.

The participants had the opportunity to engage with the speakers during an interactive question-and-answer session, seeking information and clarification on a range of topics relating to breast cancer and women’s health.

The event also included a display of artwork by emerging female artist Ria Avril Shetty, reflecting IWCB’s commitment to supporting women not only in health and wellbeing, but also in creativity, talent and community engagement.
