The Halal Food Control Division, Syariah Affairs Department, confirmed that the food 'Chicken Sisig with Calamansi', produced by Purefoods-Hormel Company, Incorporated, Philippines, contains chicken meat of which the source and halal status are doubtful, as the product does not have halal recognition from any accredited Halal Certification Body. The Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Syariah Affairs Department informed that the inspection was carried out after receiving a complaint regarding the product.
To protect the welfare of the Muslim community in the country, the Syariah Affairs Department advised business owners who sell the products to immediately isolate the products and not to display them in sales areas exposed to the public. All owners, managers, entrepreneurs, traders, suppliers and importers of products and consumer in the country are reminded to always be vigilant and more sensitive on imported products and consumer goods that will be sold to the public in their supermarkets or shops by ensuring that halal products are not mixed with non-halal products.
