Brunei Darussalam looks forward to working closely with the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and other ASEAN Member States to advance the shared aspirations for a stronger and more united ASEAN, guided by the common values of cooperation, mutual respect, and solidarity. The Second Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the matter at a Reception to commemorate the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste's admission into ASEAN. It was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, 10th November night.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof said that like the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Brunei Darussalam is a small nation surrounded by larger neighbours. Hence, Brunei Darussalam knows how important it is to belong to a regional community that offers friendship, stability, and collective strength, especially amid growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
Earlier, His Excellency Abel Guterres, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the country expressed appreciation towards His Majesty's Government for the friendship and strong support throughout Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste's journey as a nation. Among those present was His Excellency Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, Malaysian High Commissioner to the country.
