Recitation, memorisation competition crowns young winners

The Department of Mosque Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), through the Al-Quran and Muqaddam Classes Unit, Imarah Division, in collaboration with the Ash-Shaliheen Mosque Takmir Committee, recently organised an Al-Fatihah recitation and selected verses memorisation competition for Al-Quran and Muqaddam classes at mosques, suraus and prayer halls nationwide.

The winner of the boys’ Group ‘A’ category was Muhamad Faaeq Imtiyaz bin Haji Sudirman from Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Mosque, Kampong Rimba, followed by Md Hasrul bin Fairused of Kampong Danau Mosque in second place, while Muhammad Aariz Aiman bin Muhammad Sharulizam of Mohd Salleh Pekan Bangar Mosque finished third.

In the girls’ Group ‘A’ category, Maryam Az-Zahra’ binti Sahibol Omar of Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque, Pekan Tutong, was crowned the winner, followed by Nor Fatrisya Alleya Umairah binti Muhammad Nur Halim from Kampong Danau Mosque in second place. Third place went to Maghfirah Wa Barakah binti Haji Yusra from Ash-Shaliheen Mosque, Prime Minister’s Office Complex.

For the boys’ Group ‘B’ category, Muhammad Naael Al-Haqq bin Muhammad Fauzan of Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Mosque, Kampong Sungai Akar, finished first, followed by Muhammad Nur Syafie bin Haji Mokhsin of Balai Ibadat Kampong Semabat in second place. Third place went to Muhammad Al-Syairazi bin Mohamad Shahrizan of Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque, Mukim Sengkurong.

The girls’ Group ‘B’ category saw Khayra Nashwah binti Mohammad Shahrin of Sufri Bolkiah Mosque, Kampong Perpindahan Berakas, emerge as the winner. Siti Nurhazimah Hanisah binti Suhardy of STKRJ Kampong Lambak Kiri Mosque finished second, while Nur Iman Adawiyah binti Mohaimi of Balai Ibadat Kampong Semabat came in third.

Acting Director of Mosque Affairs at the MoRA Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri, the guest of honour, presented prizes to the winners.

The competition with 49 participants was divided into two categories. Category ‘A’ was open to boys and girls aged between seven and nine, while category ‘B’ was for boys and girls aged between 10 and 12.

It was held in conjunction with the 80th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. – James Kon
