The Islamic Studies Department (JPI), Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) commemorated the 70-year journey of formal religious education in Brunei Darussalam with a special Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil ceremony yesterday.
Held in conjunction with the Semarak Platinum Jubilee 70 Years of formal religious education celebration, the ceremony took place at the Royal Mausoleum, Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha.
The ceremony was held in memory of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and for His Majesty’s late son Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim.
The recitation of Surah Yaasiin was led by Special Inspector, JPI Haji Mohammad Hendra bin Haji Meraji, followed by Tahlil and Doa Arwah led by Special Inspector, JPI Haji Abdullah bin Haji Sahat. The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan was the guest of honour.
Also present were Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Dr Haji Mohammed Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad; Ra’es of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) Dr Haji Arman bin Haji Asmad; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religion) at the MoRA Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar; Acting Secretary of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Sellahuddin; and senior MoRA officials.
The Semarak Platinum Jubilee celebration this year commemorates the history and development of formal religious education in Brunei Darussalam, which began in 1956 with the establishment of religious schools.
Over the past seven decades, formal religious education has continued to develop and remains an important pillar in nurturing generations who are knowledgeable, virtuous and firmly rooted in Islamic teachings.
