A total of 22 babies were born nationwide on His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 80th Birthday.
A thanksgiving ceremony and presentation of gifts to babies born on July 15, 2026, in conjunction with His Majesty’s 80th Birthday Celebration, was held yesterday simultaneously at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital and Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) in the Brunei-Muara District, as well as Suri Seri Begawan Hospital (HSSB) in the Belait District.
Fifteen newborns were delivered at RIPAS Hospital, with five newborns at HSSB, and two newborns at JPMC. Both the first and the last babies born on July 15, 2026 were delivered at RIPAS Hospital.
Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Manpower and Minister of Home Affairs who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman’s spouse Pengiran Datin Hajah Norzana binti Pengiran Haji Rosli, the guest of honour, presented gifts to the babies at RIPAS Hospital.
At JPMC, Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin’s spouse Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Dayang Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil was the guest of honour.
Meanwhile, the ceremony at the Theatre Hall at Block R of HSSB yesterday was attended by Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos’ spouse Datin Zubaidah binti Haji Mahmud as the guest of honour.
She was accompanied by Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District) at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan’s spouse Siti Ainun Jariah binti Haji Mohd Jaafar.
Officers and staff members from HSSB and the MoHA, alongside representatives from Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) and Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd were also present.
During the ceremonies, the guests of honour presented gifts comprising a portrait photograph of the parents with their newborn, together with a hamper containing essential items for both mother and baby.
These gifts were from the national committee for His Majesty’s 80th birthday celebration. Perbadanan TAIB also contributed a baby essentials hamper worth BND60 along with BND200 in cash credited into each baby’s Simanja Account.
Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings, together with its subsidiaries, also contributed a Siswa Takaful Plan valued at BND240, providing one year of coverage.
BIBD presented each baby born on July 15, 2026 with a new savings account with an initial deposit of BND250. – James Kon & Daniel Lim
