Royalty graces graduation ceremony

Laksamana College of Business (LCB) celebrated the achievements of 526 graduates during the 2026 Graduation Ceremony yesterday.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Jefriah was present at the ceremony.

Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the guest of honour, presented certificates to Degree and Foundation as well as KCB, BTEC and City & Guilds Graduates.

Director and Principal of LCB and Kensington College of Business Ian Pirie highlighted, “The success of the college in this respect is shown by the fact that around 19 United Kingdom (UK) universities and three Swiss institutions now approve LCB courses and have given positive feedback on how well prepared the students they receive from LCB are. Over this time there have been more than 1,000 LCB graduates from British universities and some wonderful success stories. For those who want to study in the UK these opportunities remain.”

He added, “We see here today the benefits with 104 new graduates joining the 1,114 who have already graduated in Brunei since 2017. Of these 1,218 students, 134 obtained first class degrees and from the University of Essex programmes this year in accounting and finance, computer science, international tourism management, marketing, business management and law. We also have 102 graduates, of which 11 achieved First Class Honours degrees.”

Meanwhile, Acting British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Ken O’Flaherty emphasised, “The UK and Brunei enjoy a close and longstanding friendship founded on shared valued of mutual respect, the rule of law, and people-to-people connections. Whether through education, defence cooperation, trade, legal, or our collaboration on global challenges, our relationship continues to grow from strength to strength.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Dean of Essex Business School, University of Essex, UK Professor Mehmet Demirbag in another remark highlighted, “We are particularly proud to have supported LCB in becoming the first and only institution in Brunei to offer an LLB Law programme.

“The first cohort of LLB students is now joining us at the University of Essex Colchester Campus after successfully completing their Law modules at LCB. We look forward to welcoming them to Essex as they begin their final year of study.”
