SEAMEO VOCTECH launches green education readiness framework

The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO VOCTECH) on Tuesday launched a Green Education Readiness Index (GERI) Framework and Assessment Tool to help technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions across Southeast Asia assess their readiness for the green transition.

The launch took place during the opening of SEAMEO VOCTECH’s 37th Governing Board Meeting in Brunei Darussalam, officiated by Minister of Education and SEAMEO Council President Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh.

The framework and assessment tool mark a step towards supporting TVET institutions in evaluating and strengthening their capacity to integrate sustainability into education and skills development.

The annual meeting provides a platform for SEAMEO VOCTECH to report on its achievements and key developments for the 2025-2026 financial year, while outlining strategic initiatives for the coming year.

Governing board members will also review working papers covering matters for acknowledgement, approval, consideration and information to ensure the centre’s governance and strategic direction remain aligned with regional education priorities.

In conjunction with the meeting, SEAMEO VOCTECH will host a sharing session on October 14 themed “Future-Ready TVET in Southeast Asia: Leading the Twin Transition through Innovation, Inclusion, and Partnerships”.

The session will bring together SEAMEO member countries and partners to exchange insights, share practices and explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing TVET across the region.

It will focus on preparing the region’s workforce for the green and digital economies through inclusive and innovative training systems, supported by regional cooperation and industry partnerships.

An appreciation dinner following the meeting will feature the exchange of memoranda of understanding between SEAMEO VOCTECH and Malaysia’s Asia e University, as well as between the centre and Brunei-based InnovAero Sdn Bhd. The agreements aim to strengthen institutional collaboration and develop future partnerships in education and TVET.

The programme will conclude with an educational visit to the Institute of Brunei Technical Education’s Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School, alongside a cultural tour introducing delegates to Brunei’s heritage, traditions and local attractions.

Held annually in October, the Governing Board Meeting brings together representatives from SEAMEO VOCTECH’s 11 governing board member countries to review the centre’s progress and strategic direction.

The meeting reinforces the centre’s role in promoting regional cooperation, innovation and sustainable, inclusive growth through technical and vocational education and skills development.
