Safety training boosts tourism sector

Ten individuals who completed the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Training for Tourism Service Providers received certificates on Saturday during a ceremony at Setia Pahlawan Hall, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The certificates were presented by Permanent Secretary (Industry) at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Mohammad Harris bin Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim.

The 10 participants successfully completed the programme held from August 26 to 27, 2026 at Berjaya Aman Sdn Bhd.

The training was organised as part of the Tourism Development Department’s efforts to enhance safety standards, promote responsible operational practices and strengthen essential HSE knowledge among stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism industry, particularly those directly involved in tourism activities and operations.

The initiative also supports efforts to ensure that safety remains a key priority in the delivery of services, in line with national requirements, guidelines and internationally recognised practices.

Throughout the training, participants gained an understanding of HSE related legal responsibilities under the Workplace Safety and Health Act (Chapter 277), as well as key principles covering hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work procedures and appropriate control measures relevant to their operations. The programme also addressed fire safety, first aid, emergency response, crisis management and incident reporting to enhance participants awareness of safety requirements in the workplace.

The training included case studies, practical exercises and site observations to support the practical application of HSE principles in actual settings.

These activities enabled participants to better recognise potential hazards and understand appropriate measures to manage risks, while strengthening their preparedness to respond effectively to emergencies and other unforeseen situations.

The programme contributes to strengthening the capacity and professionalism of local Tourism Service Providers by enhancing their knowledge and application of HSE practices.

It also supports the development of a more competent and safety conscious industry, contributing to the delivery of safe, responsible and quality hospitality and tourism services in Brunei Darussalam.

The HSE Training is part of the Tourism Development Department’s efforts to enhance safety standards, strengthen risk management practices and promote responsible service delivery across the hospitality and tourism industry.

The initiative also contributes to the sectors preparations for Visit Brunei Year 2027 in supporting the delivery of a safe, professional and high quality visitor experience while further strengthening the overall standards and competitiveness of Brunei Darussalam‘s hospitality and tourism sector.
