The five recipients of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan’s Scholar scholarship for the 2026/2027 academic session pledged to return home and contribute to the nation’s development and the achievement of Brunei Vision 2035 after completing their studies overseas.
Syed Abd Rahman bin Syed Azmal, a graduate of Jerudong International School (JIS), who will pursue a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, shared, “I felt blessed and overjoyed to be one of the recipients of the Sultan’s Scholar scholarship and to be able to further my studies.”
He added, “I chose Electrical Engineering because, firstly, I have a strong interest in this field, and secondly, I believe the knowledge and skills I gained from the course will be applicable across various sectors in Brunei Darussalam. He hoped to fulfil His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s aspiration by contributing to efforts towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035.
Meanwhile, Farah Alyah binti Abdul Rahman, a JIS graduate, who will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning and Real Estate at University College London, United Kingdom (UK), realised that “the scholarship comes with great responsibilities and trust; therefore, it motivates me to do my best.
“I would like to extend my thanks to my parents and my friends, as well as teachers, for supporting me during my academic journey.
“Since my course is related to urban planning, I hope to bring the experiences and ideas from the UK to Brunei and contribute to the country’s development, especially by aligning with the goals of Brunei Vision 2035,” she said.
Lee Jing Jing, a graduate of Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, who will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Science at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, said, “I hope that after completing my studies, I will be able to gain invaluable knowledge and skill sets, and contribute through innovation to the development of Brunei as well as the achievement of Brunei Vision 2035.”
Another recipient, Dayangku Nurul Fadhlina Natasya binti Pengiran Haji Shahril Azman, a graduate of Sekolah Tinggi Arab Hassanal Bolkiah, who will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Syariah Islamiyyah (BA Syariah Islamiyyah) at Al-Azhar University, highlighted, “I am deeply honoured to be awarded the Sultan’s Scholar scholarship, as it represents the trust placed in me by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to pursue my studies. I believe the scholarship is not only an achievement, but also a responsibility and a testament to the trust placed in me.”
She added, “Insya Allah, I will broaden my horizons and work hard to develop my skills and abilities. I hope to bring back the knowledge and experience I gain overseas and use them to contribute to the country and our communities.”
Syasya Amalyna binti Haji Mohamad Saiful Bahrin, a JIS graduate, who will pursue a Bachelor of Medicine MBChB at the University of Dundee, Scotland, UK, expressed, “After I received the news that I was awarded the Sultan’s Scholar scholarship, I felt blessed and deeply honoured because it’s not easy to be awarded such a prestigious scholarship.” She shared, “I am pursuing my studies in medicine, and I hope to return to Brunei to serve as a medical doctor, contributing to the development and innovation of the country’s healthcare system.”
