International School Brunei (ISB) hosted its annual Board of Directors Achievement Awards Ceremony at the ISB Theatre for its International Baccalaureate (IB) students who achieved outstanding results for the May 2026 session last Tuesday.

Present from the ISB Board of Directors were Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa, Board Chairman; Haji Rashid Abdul Razak; Mr Roy David Kurian; and Mr Jorge Francisco Vega.

Also present were Executive Principal of ISB Mr Dominic Morley; ISB General Manager Ms Vienna Law; as well as ISB senior management, staff, and parents.

The Board of Directors Achievement Awards began in 2018, making 2026 the ninth time that ISB’s top IB achievers have received awards, together with financial bursaries to contribute to the cost of their tertiary education.

The IB Diploma Programme is the world’s leading post-16, gold-standard, academically challenging course. At ISB, a total of 23 ISB graduates were awarded at this edition of the Board of Directors Achievement Awards Ceremony for their performance in the IB, marking an outstanding year of IB Diploma results and a continued tradition of excellence at ISB.

For reaching the top echelon of IB results, ISB graduates receive Excellence Awards in Bronze, Silver or Gold categories (overall points between 37 and 45), and for achieving substantial performance improvement throughout their IB studies, graduates are awarded a special Achievement Award.

In his opening speech at the ceremony, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa, ISB Board Chairman, said, “We are incredibly proud of our 2026 IB cohort for not only obtaining such superb results in this challenging and demanding programme, but also receiving prestigious scholarships to top universities across the globe. Your success is a testament to your consistent hard work, positive mindset, as well as the cooperative efforts and teamwork here at ISB.”

Mr Dominic Morley, Executive Principal of ISB, in welcoming remarks, said, “I am very proud that, as a truly inclusive school, we consistently provide all our students with an excellent education here at ISB. As these IB results show, we also achieve exceptionally high academic performance. I am incredibly proud of our students. Tonight, we have come together to recognise how well they performed in their IB examinations.”

“Their success was the result of many years of hard work, supported by their dedicated teachers, loving parents and peers. We wish them well as they move forward and onto tertiary education and promising careers,” added Mr Morley.

Featuring as a guest speaker was Ms Lin Ji Liaw, an ISB alumna and IB graduate of the Class of 2007 who went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at Universiti Brunei Darussalam as well as a Master’s of Science in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health Management at the University of Edinburgh. She is now a Partner at ERM APAC (Capital Projects Delivery), and leads projects such as strategic impact assessments, helping businesses in their sustainability transition. In video remarks, Ms Liaw reflected on her experience with the IB Diploma Programme at ISB and how it helped prepare her for success.

“ISB’s position at the forefront of championing sustainability is one that I’m truly grateful to have been part of. Through my time at ISB, I grew more passionate about biodiversity conservation and started learning the various challenges that lie in pursuit of a sustainable economy,” she said. “In many ways, the communication skills, drafting resolutions, and debate skills that we learned from the ISB Borneo Global Issues Conference (BGIC) and Model United Nations all helped prepare me for my career.”

“To the ISB Board of Directors, management, and staff: thank you all for your support and continued investment in the school and its students. And to the students, congratulations once again. I am confident that your time at ISB will help shape your journey in creating a positive and meaningful impact for our people and nature.”

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Bronze Excellence Award recipient and ISB Board of Directors Scholar Eloise Tan, who reflected on her journey of achieving top academic honours and personal leadership growth, expressed deep gratitude to ISB teachers for their dedication and support, and encouraged her fellow students to embrace their full potential.

In addition to celebrating the graduates’ achievements, the event marked the final farewell for the Year 13 students as they embark on their university endeavours all over the world.
The IB results achieved by the Year 13 cohort of 2026 underline ISB’s track record of academic excellence as an inclusive school and reinforce the school’s position as the premier choice for IB education in Brunei Darussalam, preparing students for success on the world stage.
