For the past several days, educational institutions nationwide have been adapting to Home-Based Learning (HBL) as haze conditions persist across the country.
With public examinations approaching, schools are already making preparations to ensure that examinations proceed smoothly.
Among the institutions implementing measures in preparation for public examinations is Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School in Rimba, where students attended an oral examination in person on Monday.
School headmaster of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School in Rimba Haji NorHisyam bin Haji Mohd Noor stated that to ensure students continue their studies, the school has implemented HBL, where teachers conduct online lessons and prepare learning packs so that academic progress is not disrupted by the haze.
The headmaster added that the implementation of written examinations is also being carried out under specific standard operating procedures (SOP).
Students must attend strictly in accordance with the established schedule, are advised to use face masks if necessary, and wait in a specially designated room.
Meanwhile, students with breathing difficulties are advised to bring their prescribed medication to school. He expressed hope that all students will attend online lessons punctually according to the timetable and take the opportunity to consult teachers, while urging parents to support HBL by providing the necessary study requirements.
He stressed that the school prioritises student health and safety whilst ensuring lessons and examinations proceed without disruption, asking parents and students to adhere to the SOP and immediately report any health concerns.
Meanwhile, Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (Maktab Duli) has also adapted to HBL and introduced measures ahead of examinations scheduled for the end of the month.
Principal of Maktab Duli Dayangku Hajah Nooramaliatifah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad shared that the college’s primary goal is to ensure student safety and well-being whilst maintaining academic momentum.
To sustain effective examination preparations, the college implemented a multi-layered approach that included online lessons conducted on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The principal noted that teachers prepared a diverse range of online lessons, observing creative and engaging methods during school rounds that ensured the smooth execution of virtual learning.
She added that following teacher feedback on the importance of face-to-face instruction and consultations with the Ministry of Education, students have resumed physical classes.
She highlighted that the college is equipped with air-conditioned classrooms, allowing Pra-U1 and Pra-U2 students to attend classes comfortably.
The principal reminded parents to ensure their children remain well hydrated, particularly when outdoors, and emphasised the importance of maintaining physical and mental health.
Parents were also encouraged to provide children participating in HBL with dedicated, distraction-free study areas at home.
She further revealed that a college survey indicated students encountered no major disruptions regarding Internet connectivity or device access during HBL, extending her gratitude to teachers who demonstrated thorough readiness in deploying HBL, particularly with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
