A total of 1,030 participants joined the 80th Khatam Al-Quran ceremony yesterday held in conjunction with the 80th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Held at An-Naim Mosque, Kampong Panchor Mengkubau, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha and spouse attended as the guest of honour.
President of Wargamas Association Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Mohd Don said the association, which has 1,212 members, is a non-governmental organisation approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on August 10, 2019.
He said the Wargamas Association has remained committed to glorifying Al-Quran by organising the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, which has now reached its eighth edition, as a special gift from the association and senior citizens nationwide to His Majesty in conjunction with His Majesty’s 80th birthday.
Since 2021, the association has worked to strengthen unity and foster ties among its leadership and members as well as senior citizens nationwide through the Khatam Al-Quran Programme and Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony.
Haji Abu Bakar explained that each participant is required to complete all 30 juzuk of Al-Quran individually, in addition to participating in group readings according to designated halaqah.
This year, 78 halaqah were formed compared to 61 last year, following an increase in male participants.
Each halaqah comprises between 15 and 30 participants, including mosque congregants, mosque Muslimah members, committee members and individuals.
According to Haji Abu Bakar, the sincerity and devotion of Wargamas Association and senior citizens nationwide in reading and glorifying Al-Quran as a special gift to His Majesty serves as a bridge of affection, strengthening the bond between His Majesty and the people, adding that the gathering also reflected the people’s obedience and loyalty.
He called on those present to pray for Allah the Almighty to bless and grant His Majesty long life, enabling His Majesty to continue ruling with justice, safeguarding the nation with sovereignty and leading the people towards continued happiness under the guidance and mercy of Allah the Almighty.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary who also presented an infak contribution from donors of the Wargamas Association towards the construction of a car park at An-Naim Mosque, Kampong Panchor Mengkubau.
A contribution was also presented in appreciation of the cooperation extended by Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque.
