Series promotes mental resilience

A total of 110 participants attended the 26th edition of the ‘Ilm Series, which explored the role of spirituality, emotions, and life’s realities in building mental resilience in conjunction with Mental Health Month.

Organised by the Belia Da’ie Volunteer Body, with support from the Youth Religious Programme Secretariat of the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI), Ministry of Religious Affairs, the programme carried the theme ‘Spirituality, Emotions and Reality in Building Resilience’.

Guided by the concept ‘Detach to Attach’, the programme aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of emotional management, facing life’s realities, and letting go of dependence on matters beyond their control, while strengthening their reliance on Allah the Almighty as a source of strength.

The sessions focused on spiritual strengthening, emotional management, and readiness to face life’s challenges. The stories of Maryam ‘Alaihassalam and the family of ‘Imran were also highlighted as examples of patience, perseverance, trust in Allah the Almighty, and inner strength.

Three panellists from the religious, health, and safety sectors shared their perspectives through TED Talk-style inspirational presentations. Representing the religious sector, PDI Da’ie Siti Noraini binti Haji Mohd Hashim delivered a talk titled ‘A Tested Heart, a Strengthened Soul: The Story of Maryam ‘Alaihassalam’.

Head of the Training and Resource Centre Division at the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Irnawati binti Haji Mahir presented ‘Understanding Mental Health, Emotions and Resilience’.

Meanwhile, Investigating Officer of the Special Investigation Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force DSP Muhd Nurfairuz Nazri bin Salleh shared insights under the title ‘Behind the Cases: Reality, Risks and Choices’.

The presentations were followed by an interactive session with the panellists, allowing participants to reflect on their own experiences, explore the concept of resilience, and learn how to apply it in their daily lives.

Sales activities organised by members of the Belia Da’ie committee and the PDI were also held as part of the programme.

The initiative sought to raise public awareness of the importance of safeguarding mental health, developing inner resilience, and strengthening one’s relationship with Allah the Almighty. Through the ‘Detach to Attach’ concept, participants were encouraged to understand that letting go does not mean giving up. Instead, it can be a step towards building personal strength to face life’s challenges through effort, patience, and trust in Allah the Almighty.

The programme attracted religious teachers and scholars, government officers, retirees, youth, representatives of non-governmental organisations, university students, Da’wah Academy alumni, and the public.
