The Deputy State Mufti of Brunei Darussalam and a permanent member of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, left for Jeddah on yesterday to attend a seminar on the role of religious leaders in addressing violence against women.
Accompanying him at the seminar is the Senior Istinbat Officer at the State Mufti Department Haji Muhammad Ahmad Roza bin Haji Md Daud.
The international-level seminar, titled ‘The Role of Religious Leaders in Addressing Violence Against Women’, is organised by the International Islamic Fiqh Academy in collaboration with the Muslim World League.
The one-day seminar held today, brought together international experts and religious scholars to discuss key papers addressing the concepts, causes and forms of violence against women.
Discussions focused on the role of Islamic jurisprudence and Shariah references in correcting misconceptions, as well as strategies involving communities, institutions, the media and international bodies in preventing and addressing the issue.
Brunei Darussalam’s participation in the seminar reflects the country’s continued commitment to contributing Shariah-based perspectives on humanitarian and global issues at the international level.
