The finals took place on Saturday at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Mosque in Kampong Rimba.

Ahmad Rafiq Azzawani won the male category, followed by his brother Ahmad Ridwan Azzawani in second place and Abdul Wafiy bin Haji Ibrahim in third place. In the female category, Dayangku Alya Syahirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri clinched first place, with Ifrah Mazidah Lubis, sister of the male category champion, taking second place, and Hajah Fatinah binti Haji Abd Wahab securing third.

A total of 51 participants qualified for the subsequent stage of the competition following the conclusion of the preliminary round, conducted over four days at the same venue. The preliminary stage attracted 98 reciters, comprising 78 men and 20 women.

The competition was organised by the Mosque Affairs Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs through its Mosque Affairs Division, in collaboration with the mosque’s Takmir Committee.

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Awang Zainol bin Haji Mohamed, the guest of honour, presented prizes to the participants.

The competition aims to nurture a generation proficient in Al-Quran recitation who are capable of reading Al-Quran fluently and accurately, while cultivating an appreciation for daily recitation.

It also seeks to deepen participants’ understanding of Al-Quran teachings, strengthen ties among reciters, and support the Sultanate’s aspiration of becoming a Zikir Nation.

Through the initiative, the organisers aspire to develop talented and accomplished qari and qariah while enhancing the overall quality of recitation.

The competition also aims to develop individuals who can serve as role models within their communities by applying the teachings of Al-Quran in daily life, with organisers expressing hope that sustained initiatives will further reinforce the culture of Al-Quran literacy across the Muslim community in Brunei. – Lyna Mohamad
