Singapore PM witnesses vehicle handover

Singapore Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong yesterday witnessed the handover of four Light Fire Attack Vehicles (LFAVs) from Singapore-based HOPE Technik to Brunei Engineering, Logistics and Training Solutions (BELTS) in a ceremony held at the Fire and Rescue Department Headquarters.

Upon arrival, Lawrence Wong was welcomed by Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Manpower and Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

Lawrence Wong signed the commemorative parchment as a token of appreciation to the Fire and Rescue Department for his visit.

Acting Director of Fire and Rescue Azmi bin Haji Hafneh in his speech highlighted the strong ties between the Fire and Rescue Department and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which have been strengthened through a memorandum of understanding in place since 2022.

He also spoke about the procurement of the LFAVs, which incorporate Singaporean technology.

The acquisition is expected to enhance the operational capabilities of the Fire and Rescue Department, particularly in strengthening emergency preparedness and improving response effectiveness in various emergency situations.

The ceremony also featured a video presentation showcasing HOPE Technik, a Singapore-based engineering and technology company specialising in the development of specialised vehicles, automation, and unmanned systems.

The video highlighted the production process of the four LFAVs, while showcasing the cooperation and exchange of expertise between the two countries in the field.

The presentation shared the involvement of 39 Fire and Rescue Department officers who are alumni of training programmes in Singapore, reflecting the longstanding cooperation and knowledge-sharing between both parties.

The highlight of the ceremony saw Lawrence Wong and Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin witnessing the symbolic handover of a mock key by representatives of HOPE Technik and BELTS to the acting director of Fire and Rescue, marking the official handover and acceptance of the four LFAVs.

Lawrence Wong viewed the LFAVs on display in the parking area and received a brief explanation of their capabilities and onboard equipment. Members of the Legislative Council, government officials from the Singapore delegation accompanying Lawrence Wong, permanent secretaries, heads of departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as senior Fire and Rescue Department officers who are alumni of programmes at the Civil Defence Academy in Singapore were also present.
