Smart money habits in focus at Financial Literacy Day

Standard Chartered Bank Brunei and Standard Chartered Securities (B) Sdn Bhd reinforced their commitment to advancing financial literacy through their participation in National Financial Literacy Day (NFLD) 2026, from September 2 to 4 at The Mall, Gadong.

Organised by Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) under the theme ‘Smart Money Habits, Stronger Financial Well-Being’, the event brought together financial institutions and industry stakeholders to empower the community with practical financial knowledge and skills.

Throughout the three-day Financial Awareness Roadshow, Standard Chartered Bank and Standard Chartered Securities engaged visitors through a range of interactive activities focused on investing, money management and scam awareness. Highlights included an Investment Principle Match-Up challenge that introduced visitors to key investing concepts such as diversification, understanding risk and long-term investing, as well as the Investment or Scam challenge, which helped participants recognise common warning signs of fraudulent schemes. Younger visitors also took part in age-appropriate activities designed to introduce basic money management concepts in a fun and engaging way.

The initiative was supported by employee volunteers from across the bank who dedicated their time to facilitate activities and engage visitors throughout the event. Their participation was made possible through Standard Chartered’s global Employee Volunteering Programme (EVP), under which employees are provided up to three days of volunteering leave annually to support causes and community initiatives they are passionate about. Through NFLD 2026, colleagues used their time and expertise to help promote financial literacy and encourage positive financial habits within the community.

Head, Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing, Standard Chartered Bank Brunei Marilyn Graeme said, “Financial literacy is an essential life skill that helps people make informed financial decisions and build long-term financial resilience. Through NFLD 2026, we wanted to make learning about money practical, accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages.”

She added, “I am especially proud of our colleagues who volunteered their time through our Employee Volunteering Programme to support this initiative. By sharing their knowledge and engaging directly with the community, they helped bring important financial concepts to life and supported efforts to build greater financial awareness across Brunei Darussalam.”
