Some 500 join walkathon to raise funds

Some 500 participants joined the KACA Walkathon 2026 at Taman Rekreasi Jalan Perdana Menteri in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA), aiming to raise funds to support the association’s programmes and activities over a five-year period from 2026 to 2030.

In his speech, programme chairman and KACA Managing Director Haji Awang Abdul Alim bin Haji Awang Othman said the walkathon was not merely a recreational activity, but also a platform to strengthen relationships, raise public awareness and demonstrate support and concern for members of the KACA community with special needs.

He added that the celebration not only commemorated the association’s four decades of service, but also marked a starting point for looking ahead to the programmes and activities planned for 2026 to 2030.

Among its planned initiatives is the KACA Savings Project for 2026 to 2030, which aims to cultivate a consistent culture of saving and encourage long-term financial planning. The association also emphasises the sharing of knowledge, experience and best practices through study visits for staff, parents and volunteers, both locally and overseas, to enhance their knowledge and skills while strengthening collaborative networks.

To expand its services, KACA also plans to extend its home-based services to all districts from 2027.

Other programmes planned for 2026 to 2030 include the National Primary School Essay Writing Competition for Year 4 to Year 6 pupils in government and private schools, as well as national-level Mari Becerita, Mewarna dan Senyum competitions.

He also highlighted the message of unity and compassion conveyed by the walkathon, encouraging the public to view every individual as part of Brunei’s wider community, where differences should never become a barrier to helping one another.

This spirit, he said, was in line with the aspirations of the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to ensure that the welfare and well-being of the people, particularly those requiring additional care and support, remain a priority.
