Specialised training strengthens tourism expertise

Some 11 individuals completed the basic nature and wildlife specialised tourist guide course, the first of its kind training in the country, and received certificates during a ceremony at the Setia Pahlawan Hall of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry yesterday.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, the guest of honour, presented certificates to the recipients. The course was conducted from July 27 to August 5, 2026 by Laksamana College of Business (LCB), the appointed training institution.

Designed to elevate industry standards, the course equips tourists guides with the essential expertise, field skills and confidence required to interpret and showcase Brunei Darussalam’s rich natural heritage. Through a blend of classroom instruction and hands on field experience, participants gained insights into local Ecosystems, wildlife identification, animal behavior and responsible conservation practices.

The specialised certification ensures that local guides are fully prepared to deliver engaging safe and meaningful eco-tourism experiences while actively promoting the sustainable appreciation and protection of Brunei’s biodiversity.

Following the success of the inaugural cohort, the next intake for the basic nature and wildlife specialised tourist guide course is scheduled for January/February 2027 at LCB. – James Kon
