Strong core values, a service-oriented mindset and effective communication are essential to business and personal development, local businessman Stephen Ong told young entrepreneurs during a recent engagement organised by the Young Entrepreneurs Association Brunei (YEAB).
Ong emphasised that while data and analysis play an important role in business decision-making, entrepreneurs should not overlook the importance of interpersonal relationships and mutual understanding.
“Effective communication and mutual understanding” are equally important in business dealings, he said, cautioning against relying too heavily on analytical approaches at the expense of human connections.
The October 24 gathering brought together YEAB members from the design, media management, accounting, finance, oil and gas, and trading sectors to exchange views on business management, talent development, generational differences and career growth.
Drawing on his experience in real estate, investment and hospitality management, Ong also highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive work attitude and a sense of responsibility across different roles.
He said individuals could gain valuable experience by approaching their work with commitment, while remaining consistent in their values and principles regardless of their position.
The interactive session included questions from members on business strategies, identifying and developing talent, and adapting to different management approaches across generations.
YEAB president Goh Chai Li said the gathering provided young entrepreneurs with an opportunity to learn from experienced business leaders, broaden their perspectives and strengthen professional connections.
The association plans to continue organising similar engagements to promote cross-industry knowledge sharing, collaboration and networking within Brunei’s business community.
