Some 469 students and 50 teachers and school staff from Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Abdul Momin Primary School attended a fire safety briefing and fire extinguisher demonstration by the Operations Branch ‘B’ of the Fire and Rescue Department, Belait District on Saturday.
The programme included briefings and activities, including explanations on fire safety and prevention, evacuation procedures and the proper assembly procedures at a designated safe area during an emergency.
Deputy Station Officer Nur Munirah binti Abdullah and ABKW 222 Nurfarjana Syahirah binti Abdullah Kah conducted the sessions.The programme continued with the fire extinguisher demonstration led by the Head of the Corporate Communications Section of the Operations Branch ‘B’, Belait District Acting Assistant Superintendent Sarkawi bin Bakar.
Teachers and students also learned how to use fire extinguishers as part of efforts to prevent and control fires through guided first-hand experience.
The school expressed hope that the programme will help foster a strong culture of safety and a sense of responsibility among the school community as they gained a deeper understanding of the importance of personal safety, while remaining prepared and knowing the appropriate actions to take when faced with an emergency.
The school’s Safety and Health Unit organised the programme as part of its annual activities and aims to raise awareness among students, teachers and staff on fire safety and prevention, while providing them with knowledge on the correct and safe actions to take in the event of a fire emergency.
