The Katok Secondary School Gulingtangan Group emerged as champion in the 2026 Gulintangan Competition for secondary schools, colleges, and sixth form centres nationwide after competing in the final round yesterday.
Organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Arts and Creativity Division under the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, in collaboration with the Secretariat Office of the Executive Council for Malay Islamic Monarchy and the Academy of Brunei Studies at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the event was held at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre, UBD.
Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoE Dr Eddy Fazlin bin Haji Amdan was the guest of honour.
The competition saw the participation of 11 teams comprising 107 students during the preliminary round, with seven teams successfully advancing to the final.
The qualifying finalists included the Raja Isteri Girls’ High School (STPRI), Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) College, Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College, as well as Katok, Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna (PAP Masna), Lambak Kiri, and Sayyidina Husain secondary schools. STPRI secured first runner-up, while Sayyidina Husain Secondary School finished in third place. Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College finished in fourth place, followed by PAP Masna Secondary School, Lambak Kiri Secondary School, and SOAS College in fifth, sixth, and seventh positions.
The competition aimed to preserve and sustain Brunei’s cultural heritage through arts-related co-curricular activities, instil patriotism by safeguarding the authenticity of traditional culture among students, and cultivate skilled performers for local and international platforms. It was also designed to nurture musical talents and creativity in mastering the gulintangan within a healthy competitive setting, whilst strengthening teamwork and peer confidence.
