Suspect arrested after 19 car break-ins across Brunei-Muara

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) has solved 19 car break-in cases in Brunei-Muara District and arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for the offences.

In a statement issued on Friday, the RBPF said investigations found that the suspect targeted vehicles parked in public areas and residential neighbourhoods.

The affected locations included recreational areas such as Wasai Sungai Akar and Bukit Shahbandar, car parks at sports complexes and mosques, as well as parking spaces near business premises and residential areas in Berakas, Bandar Seri Begawan, Kampong Ayer and Sengkurong.

The suspect allegedly took advantage of vehicles left unattended, particularly in the early morning, late at night and during peak recreational hours.

The suspect is believed to have smashed vehicle windows to steal valuables left inside.

The suspect has been detained for further investigation under Sections 379 and 427 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22) for theft and mischief causing damage.

The RBPF urged motorists to remain vigilant and avoid leaving valuables, including electronic devices, handbags and cash, in plain sight inside vehicles.

Drivers were also reminded to ensure their vehicles are locked whenever they are parked.
