Muslims have been urged to uphold the importance of education and recognise the vital role of teachers in shaping individuals who are knowledgeable, principled and beneficial to society.
The Friday sermon highlighted the rapid development of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), and the vast amount of information now readily accessible. While such advancements can provide significant benefits, they must be accompanied by proper guidance, knowledge and etiquette.
The sermon stressed that knowledge should not merely increase a person’s information, but should also strengthen faith, shape character and guide them towards righteousness.
Teachers, it said, play an important role in nurturing the younger generation, particularly in developing their understanding, thinking and character.
“Knowledge without proper guidance can lead to misunderstanding and misuse,” the sermon cautioned, stressing that educators must impart knowledge with wisdom and sound values.
The sermon also underscored the noble status of teachers in Islam, noting that their contribution extends beyond academic instruction to the formation of students’ personalities and moral character.
Teachers were reminded to serve as role models, demonstrating good conduct and integrity in their words and actions.
The sermon further highlighted the responsibility of educators to help students develop their intellectual, physical and emotional capabilities, while ensuring that knowledge is applied for the benefit of others.
Citing verse 11 of Surah Al-Mujadilah, the sermon reminded Muslims that Allah the Almighty raises the ranks of those who believe and those who are granted knowledge.
It also called on educators to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity, patience and perseverance, while seeking Allah the Almighty’s guidance and blessings in their efforts to educate and nurture the younger generation.
