Temburong records moderate air quality

Air quality in Temburong was moderate on Wednesday morning, while the other three districts recorded good conditions, according to the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

At 9am, Temburong recorded a Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading of 66, compared with 42 in Brunei-Muara, 23 in Belait and 31 in Tutong.

A PSI reading below 50 indicates good air quality, while readings between 51 and 100 are classified as moderate. Readings between 101 and 200 are unhealthy, 201 and 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.

JASTRe, under the Ministry of Development, said air quality reporting has incorporated PM2.5 concentrations into the PSI since September 1.

The World Health Organization defines PM2.5 as fine particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres. These particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting cardiovascular and respiratory health.

JASTRe will continue monitoring air quality nationwide and provide PSI updates at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm during the hazy period.
