His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Anisha Rosnah binti Adam graced the opening of the Impressionist Landscape Art & Immersive Exhibition on Monday.
Held at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (BKISHHB), the landmark exhibition showcases 18 masterpieces by renowned 19th-century Impressionist painters, including Claude Monet, Paul Signac, Eugène Boudin and Paul Cézanne.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Anisha Rosnah were welcomed by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (B) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Coordinating Minister for National Security; Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; and Minister of Defence II, as well as Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister of Finance II.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan and Negara Brunei Darussalam, followed by a Sabda delivered by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
This was followed by a keynote address from Sotheby’s London specialist Edward Gibbs, Chairman, Middle East & South Asia, Sotheby’s, and the screening of the official launch video for the Impressionist Landscape Art Exhibition.
His Royal Highness then consented to present tokens of appreciation to the exhibition’s strategic partners and sponsors.
Alongside the exhibition is Brunei’s first digital immersive experience inspired by Impressionist landscape artworks, animated by local studio Runa Studios.
The paintings collectively capture the beauty of nature through an artistic style imbued with the emotion that defines the Impressionist movement, in keeping with the exhibition’s theme, The Impressionist Landscape.
The innovative installation brings the artworks to life, allowing visitors to step into the scenes and experience the colours, light and atmosphere of each masterpiece in a new and immersive way.
The launch ceremony was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Policy; and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin; Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary Bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha; and Deputy Minister of Finance, Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani.
Also present were other invited guests and exhibition partners, including Unified National Networks (UNN) as the lead partner, Sotheby’s as the curation partner, and Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as the museum partner.
The Impressionist Landscape Art Exhibition will be open to the public from July 28, 2026 to July 31, 2027 at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah’s Special Exhibition Gallery Spaces 1 and 2. – Lyna Mohamad
