Three companies fined for illegal dumping

Three companies were issued compound fines totalling BND5,000 for illegal waste disposal following an enforcement operation at a foreign workers’ accommodation in Kampong Mentiri.

During the inspection, authorities discovered several piles of rubbish improperly dumped near the workers’ accommodation. The three companies were issued compound notices on October 22, 2026. One company was ordered to pay a BND1,000 fine under Section 12(1)(a), while the other two were each issued BND2,000 fines under Section 12(1)(d).

The companies have been given seven days to settle their respective compound fines. The failure to do so may result in their cases being brought to court under the Minor Offences Act (Chapter 30). Upon conviction, offenders may face a fine of up to BND30,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both. Codenamed Operasi Bersih, the operation was conducted by the Brunei-Muara District Office through its Licensing and Enforcement Division, in collaboration with the Immigration and National Registration Department, Royal Customs and Excise Department, and Department of Labour and Employment.

The Brunei-Muara District Office said similar enforcement operations would continue periodically to safeguard environmental cleanliness and public safety.

Members of the public are also encouraged to report illegal dumping by providing the location address and photographs via its WhatsApp line. – Lyna Mohamad
