A gas explosion at the Amber Hills building in Batu Bersurat early Thursday caused a small fire at a restaurant and left three people with minor injuries.
The Brunei Fire and Rescue Department (BFRD) received the emergency call at 6.27am and arrived at 6.40am. Three fire engines from Beribi, Berakas and Bandar Seri Begawan fire stations, involving 17 personnel, were deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found evidence of an explosion, followed by a small fire at a restaurant, which was quickly extinguished.
Workers and occupants of the building had evacuated safely. Three people sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.
A survey by the Bulletin at the scene found that the rear section of the building had sustained significant damage, with several shops affected by the incident.
BFRD is investigating the cause of the explosion and assessing the estimated damage.
Personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Authority of Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi), and the Public Works Department (JKR) were also at the scene.
