This year’s grand performance in conjunction with the 80th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, delivered a powerful tribute to the monarch through the theme ‘Menjunjung Raja Tampuk Negara’, reflecting the people’s respect, gratitude and loyalty.
Performance Director Fathan bin Haji Anuar said the theme served as the primary inspiration for the production, guiding every aspect of the show from its artistic direction to its overall message.
Blending traditional dance, music and vocals with modern progressive elements, the production reflected the spirit and identity of Brunei while celebrating the nation’s rich cultural heritage and continued progress.
He shared that early planning played a key role in ensuring the smooth coordination of the large-scale production. By developing the concept at an early stage, the team was able to identify the performers, choreographers, vocalists and leaders needed to train students from selected schools. “Alhamdulillah, because we started planning early, we were able to minimise challenges. The strong teamwork between government agencies and all related organisations has been truly inspiring. Regardless of their positions, everyone was willing to turun padang and contribute towards making this performance a success,” he added.
Around 90 per cent of the production featured pop-traditional music fused with modern rhythms and traditional instruments, creating a musical journey reflecting the Sultanate’s evolution from its historical beginnings to the present day. Complemented by dynamic choreography and specially composed songs, the performances showcased the nation’s culture, heritage and enduring values.
The director hoped the performances conveyed the people’s profound appreciation and steadfast loyalty to His Majesty while highlighting the unity of Brunei’s multi-ethnic and multicultural society in celebrating the historic milestone. – Lyna Mohamad
