In an effort to enhance the quality and caregiving skills of childcare providers across the country, the Childcare Centre Unit under the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) is conducting a series of training courses in phases from August 10 to October 10.
Four childcare centres participated in the programme, which comprised lectures, workshops, group presentations, assessments, and examinations.
The modules covered topics including the Caregiver Provider Programme for Infants and Children, Orientation and Growth and Development, Nutrition and Baby Care, Psychology and Play Therapy, Medication and Safety, First Aid and Programme Evaluation, as well as Post Assessment and OCEE.
The course aims to provide childcare workers with greater exposure to proper childcare, education, and caregiving approaches for children under the care of registered childcare centres.
The caregiving methods introduced during the course cater to children aged between zero and 12 years, with participants receiving instruction on early childhood growth and development, alongside children’s health and well-being. The programme equips childcare centres with professional skills to ensure the welfare, safety, and health of children under their care.
It also focuses on proper caregiving techniques, effective communication, and building parental confidence in entrusting their children to registered facilities in the country.
The Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) President Haji Mustapa bin Haji Masri, who observed the training session, remarked that the course was beneficial and relevant to those working at childcare centres in the Sultanate.
He said that participants are able to learn techniques, skills, experiences, and knowledge throughout the course, noting that the trainers are well experienced and skilled in delivering the topics covered.
