The Australian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, and the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) commenced its sixth Law of the Sea training yesterday, providing a comprehensive introduction to international maritime law.
Facilitated by ANCORS Director Professor Stuart Kaye and Professor Clive Schofield, the programme focuses on the Law of the Sea and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
As the foundational legal framework governing the world’s oceans, UNCLOS plays a critical role in promoting maritime security, sustainable ocean governance, resource management, and the peaceful resolution of maritime issues.
Through a combination of lectures, discussions and practical case studies, participants will enhance their understanding of key maritime concepts and the application of international law in the maritime domain.
The training reflects the longstanding cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Australia in maritime affairs and supports efforts to strengthen regional knowledge and professional capacity.
