Two Tutong restaurants fined BND2K each

Two restaurants in the Tutong District were each slapped with a BND2,000 compound fine recently by personnel from the Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office for violating Section 12(1)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30.

The offenders were given seven days to settle the compound fine, after which failure to make payment may result in the companies being prosecuted in court.

Upon conviction, an offender may face a fine of not less than BND2,000 and not exceeding BND10,000.

For a second or subsequent offence, the penalty increases to a fine of not less than BND10,000 and not exceeding BND30,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

Members of the public, construction companies, and owners of commercial premises are reminded to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and refrain from disposing of rubbish in public areas.
