In line with the political commitment from the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance, AMR 2024, the 'One Health' approach remains essential in scaling up efforts against AMR. This is in line with the need to translate political commitment into concrete and accountable action, aligned with current realities and supported at all levels to achieve the critical targets set in the meeting, thus driving greater impact on AMR. In a message in conjunction with the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, the Minister of Health, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, and the Minister of Development shared that in the context of Brunei Darussalam, current efforts on AMR has exemplified global strategies and progress, especially in the establishment of the multi-sectoral Brunei Darussalam Antimicrobial Resistance Council in 2018, which consists of the Ministry of Health representing human health and Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism representing animal and plant health.
Efforts to achieve the targets of the Brunei Darussalam National Action Plan, NAP, against AMR has not been without challenges. It has provided information or valuable insights on gaps and relevant opportunities in the local context, and has formed the basis in creating the next NAP. This year, the momentum continues with campaigns promoted across mass media including social media, exhibitions, educational webinars, health and fitness activities and the 'Go Blue' campaign which inspired the wearing of the colour blue in support of the campaign. The Whole of Government Approach to address AMR is vital to protect the present and secure the future. This year's theme is 'Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.' It emphasises the importance of strong and tangible actions to address AMR that is already compromising health, food system, environment and economy.
