A total of 22 youth football teams from across the nation took part in the inaugural Generasi Dirgahayu 80 Youth Football Tournament at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club’s (BSRC) football field on Sunday.
Organised by the Village Consultative Council (MPK) of PN Panaga ‘A’, RPN Lumut 3, together with the Belait District Office, the tournament was held in conjunction with the 80th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The teams competed across three categories, with five teams in the under-18 3×3 competition, 10 teams in the under-14 category and seven teams in the under-11 category.
The tournament aimed to provide a platform for young players to develop their footballing talents while fostering sportsmanship, discipline, self-confidence and teamwork.
It also served as an avenue to strengthen ties among players, coaches, parents and members of the community, while encouraging children and youths to spend their leisure time engaging in healthy and beneficial sporting activities.
Acting Assistant Belait District Officer Mohammad Fadzil bin Mohd Yanie witnessed the final matches and presented the prizes.
