A delegation of 15 participants, comprising 12 Year 5 students and three accompanying teachers from Dato Basir Primary School, left the Sultanate yesterday for a five-day educational visit to Valour Primary School, Singapore until July 23, 2026.
Eleven-year-old Siti Nur Raisha binti Mohd Irsyad described being selected for the programme as both an honour and an exciting opportunity.
“I feel very happy and proud because my teachers believed in me and chose me to represent my school,” she said.
Siti Nur Raisha said she looks forward to experiencing Singapore’s culture, sampling its traditional cuisine, visiting historical landmarks, and seeing firsthand the country’s reputation for cleanliness and organisation.
She believes the programme will help her build confidence and independence, while enhancing her communication skills and broadening her knowledge. The young student also hopes to introduce her Singaporean peers to Brunei’s rich culture through traditional delicacies such as Ambuyat, Penyaram, and Kuih Cincin, as well as share the country’s traditions and attractions. Although she had previously visited Singapore with her family when she was younger, this will be her first trip there with her schoolmates and teachers.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Izzan Irasyaduddin bin Haji Jamrie said he was honoured and excited to have been chosen to represent Brunei, especially as the trip marks his first time travelling overseas independently. He is eager to explore Singapore, learn more about its culture, visit places of interest, try local cuisine, and form new friendships. Izzan also hopes to share Brunei’s traditional food, cultural heritage, and iconic landmarks with Singaporean students, including Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
Similar to Siti Nur Raisha, he believes the exchange programme will help him develop greater confidence, independence, and communication skills, while providing meaningful learning experiences that will support his academic journey.
Accompanying the students on the exchange is Zirwatul Hayat binti Haji Asnan, who said preparations for the programme involved arranging travel documents, preparing presentation materials, and ensuring the students understood the objectives of the exchange as well as their responsibilities as representatives of their school and country.
She expressed hope that the initiative would further strengthen the partnership between Dato Basir Primary School and Valour Primary School, while supporting teachers’ professional growth and enriching students’ educational experiences.
From an educational standpoint, Zirwatul Hayat said the visit would provide opportunities for teachers to exchange best practices, gain new insights into pedagogy and school management, strengthen professional networks, and explore innovative teaching methods to enhance the quality of education.
She encouraged the participating students to maintain good discipline, respect Singapore’s culture and school regulations, actively participate in all activities, and make the most of the experience by forming lasting friendships and bringing home valuable knowledge and memories to share with their school and community.
Coordinated by the Ministry of Education (MoE), through the Department of Schools, the visit forms part of the Brunei Darussalam and Singapore School Twinning Programme.
Acting Senior Special Duties Officer (Corporate), Department of Schools, MoE Mohammad Danny bin Aimi was present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to the delegation.
The programme aims to strengthen bilateral relations between schools from both nations through the exchange of best practices in academics, pedagogy and holistic student development.
