A total of 62 Year 3, 4 and 5 pupils from selected government and private primary schools nationwide took part in the Kembara Ilmu: Bilal dan Imam Cilik programme for 1448H/2026M, aimed at nurturing young Muslims with knowledge, skills and strong moral values.
The programme was organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), through the General Schools (Islamic Education) Division, Department of Islamic Studies (JPI), at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque on Monday.
The programme involved pupils from 17 government and 10 private primary schools.
The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the Bilal dan Imam Cilik programme in government and private primary schools, introduced in 2025.
It also supports the aspirations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to develop a younger generation equipped with knowledge, skills and noble character.
The programme provided pupils with opportunities to gain first-hand experience in a mosque while enhancing their knowledge, practical skills and confidence in carrying out the roles of bilal and imam.
Among its key objectives were to familiarise pupils with the functions of the mosque and the roles of imams and bilals, strengthen their skills in performing the azan and leading congregational prayers, as well as instil leadership qualities and love for the mosque from a young age.
Throughout the programme, participants joined in activities designed to provide practical exposure to the responsibilities of imams and bilals.
Activities included an introduction to the programme, a brisk walk, a guided tour of the mosque, mentoring sessions with imams and bilals, as well as demonstrations and practical training in performing the azan and leading congregational prayers. The programme is expected to provide participants with a meaningful early experience in understanding the responsibilities of imams and bilals.
