Training-Of-Trainers on Chronic Obesity Care Programme

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, WHO, conducted a Training of Trainers on Obesity Chronic Care Programme. The two-day workshop is the world's first of its kind. The implementation of the training is an important milestone in strengthening the national capacity to address obesity through a primary health care approach.

The participants comprise medical specialists, nurses and allied health professionals from relevant departments under the Ministry of Health. The objective was to build the capacity of healthcare providers, particularly in equipping frontline health workers and primary care physicians with the knowledge and skills in comprehensive, integrated and continuous management of obesity. The workshop also emphasised the role of a multidisciplinary approach as part of a long-term chronic care programme. The training sessions were facilitated by officers from the WHO Representative Office for Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific and WHO Headquarters in Geneva.
