Muslims have been urged to make good use of their time, practise moderation in spending and strengthen family ties as they prepare for the Hereafter.
The Friday sermon delivered in Brunei Darussalam on October 23 reminded the congregation that life is temporary and urged them to use their time and opportunities to perform acts of worship and good deeds.
It stressed the importance of maintaining faith, seeking religious knowledge, caring for elderly family members, helping those in need and contributing to the community.
The sermon also encouraged Muslims to face illness and other life challenges with patience and sincerity, while viewing old age and retirement as opportunities to continue worshipping and serving others.
On financial matters, the congregation was advised to avoid excessive spending, manage household expenses responsibly and settle debts when they fall due.
The sermon cited verse 67 of Surah Al-Furqan, which describes the righteous as those who neither spend extravagantly nor are miserly, but maintain moderation.
It also referred to a hadith encouraging Muslims to make use of five opportunities before five circumstances arise: youth before old age, health before illness, wealth before poverty, free time before being occupied, and life before death.
The congregation was urged to reflect on how they use their time and resources, fulfil their responsibilities and perform good deeds with sincere intentions while they still have the opportunity.
