A blessed home is built on faith, mutual respect, compassion and strong family relationships, according to this week’s Friday sermon.
The sermon reminded Muslims to remain mindful of Allah the Almighty and uphold Islamic teachings in their daily lives, stressing that a peaceful household is not defined by material wealth or outward appearance, but by the values and conduct of its members.
It said parents and spouses played an important role in nurturing a loving family environment, with parents urged to guide their children through good examples, religious education and consistent practice of Islamic teachings.
Families were encouraged to make their homes places of worship and learning by performing prayers together, reciting the Quran, remembering Allah and setting aside time for meaningful interaction.
The sermon also stressed the importance of protecting family members from harmful behaviour, unlawful earnings and actions that could undermine the peace and blessings of a household.
It reminded Muslims that family life came with tests and challenges, including financial difficulties and disagreements, and urged them to respond with patience, prayer and mutual support.
Quoting a hadith narrated by Imam Al-Bukhari, the sermon highlighted the importance of maintaining family ties, stating that those who believe in Allah the Almighty and the Hereafter should uphold their bonds of kinship.
It urged family members to resolve disputes through forgiveness, sincere apologies and reconciliation rather than allowing resentment to deepen and relationships to deteriorate.
The sermon further warned against neglecting the rights of vulnerable family members, including orphans, and cautioned against consuming their wealth unjustly. It also reminded Muslims to avoid usury and other prohibited sources of income.
In addition, parents were encouraged to monitor their speech and conduct, as hurtful words, insults and harmful remarks could damage relationships and leave lasting emotional wounds.
The sermon called on Muslims to make their homes places of mercy, tranquillity and spiritual growth by strengthening family bonds, practising kindness and helping one another fulfil religious obligations.
It concluded by urging families to begin with small, consistent steps, including praying together, reading the Quran, seeking forgiveness and spending quality time with loved ones, so their homes could become sources of blessing in this world and the Hereafter.
