Muslims are urged to strengthen their piety by constantly remembering death and preparing for the eternal life in the hereafter. When death comes, it will not hastened or delayed, even for a second. Death is the severer that separates human beings from life, leaving behind all possessions, without wealth and companions, wrapped in a white cloth, and left alone in the darkness of the grave. The reminder was part of the Friday Sermon titled 'Death is a Certainty.'
In Islam, Muslims are encouraged to remember death frequently. Among the benefits of remembering death: raises awareness in the soul, making a person increasingly more diligent in worshiping Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala and encourages the abandonment of wrongful acts and sins. Steps that may be taken to remember death, are self-reflection; imagining the moments of death; imagining the state of the self in the grave; imagining the punishments and torments while in the grave and reading stories related to death.
