'Neglecting Tithe Obligation on Wealth: Inviting Punishment and Loss'

People often overlook the obligation of zakat or tithe on property compared to zakat fitrah. Some people assume that the only obligatory tithe is zakat fitrah and feel that they have fulfilled their tithe obligation by paying it before Aidilfitri. The Friday Sermon underlined Neglecting Tithe Obligation on Wealth: Inviting Punishment and Loss. The sermon also explained that there are still those who don't understand or know about property tithe, its rulings; rate and how to calculate it, and do not know where to pay it.

In Brunei Darussalam, those who wish to pay tithe on property can visit the Zakat Collection Counter at the Department of Zakat, Wakaf and Baitulmal or JUZWAB, located at the Ministry of Religious Affairs building; JUZWAB Zakat Counters at the District Religious Affairs Offices in the Tutong, Belait District and Temburong Districts; appointed amils; financial institutions and banks as well as other authorised service providers throughout the country. Tithe is one of the pillars of Islam, therefore Muslims must know how to pay business tithe; property tithe and other assets. Tithe is obligatory for Muslims who meet the Nisab threshold. People who refuse to pay tithe is ruled as a fasiq and sinful, while those who denies the legal obligation of tithe are considered as kufur or disbelievers.
