Carelessness, driving over the speed limit, and using mobile phones while driving are among the main causes of road accidents. According to a report by the Department of Criminal Investigation and Traffic Control, Royal Brunei Police Force, 18 deaths and 325 injuries were recorded until September this year. This was highlighted in the Friday Sermon titled 'Responsibility as a Road User.'
The sermon highlighted that drivers must always be alert and focus while driving, and ensure the safety of themselves and others on the road. Drivers are advised not to be selfish, drive courteously, and adjust their driving according to the road condition, weather, and the behaviour of other road users. Practising patience is also a vital in the efforts to reduce road accidents. Apart from that, road users must also ensure their vehicle are in good condition before starting any journey. Muslims are also encouraged to protect themselves by reciting zikir and supplication before starting a journey until they arrive to their destination.
