KOTA KINABALU (Feb 3): The Sabah United Association of Ethnic Bumiputera Native Council (MAGEBS) has proposed establishing the MAGEBS Cultural Village Centre.
In a statement, its president Datuk Abdullah Sibil said the centre will document and preserve the cultural heritage and languages of Sabah’s Bumiputera ethnic groups and provide a space for customary education and inter-generational knowledge transfer.
“The group will fully manage the centre through a community-led, inclusive and sustainable approach that is aligned with national and international heritage preservation standards,” he said.
He added that MAGEBS is ready to cooperate professionally and on principled grounds with all stakeholders to ensure that the customs, culture and social harmony of Sabah’s Bumiputera communities continue to be preserved.
“MAGEBS is not a political entity, but a civil society institution anchored in the customs, culture and lived realities of Sabah’s Bumiputera communities.
“We see the need for this role to be recognised and more clearly understood, and to be supported through structured and focused strategic cooperation,” he said.
