KUCHING (Feb 4): Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) has expanded piped natural gas (PNG) supply to residents of Taman Saberkas Jaya in Bintulu, with another 21 homes scheduled to be progressively connected by the end of February.
The development marks the second neighbourhood in Bintulu to receive direct PNG access, following the launch of the Sungai Plan residential gas supply project in July last year.
Petros, in a statement, said the project involved internal piping installations within homes and extensive gas main construction along the Bintulu–Samalaju coastal road, ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of piped natural gas.
“The completion of the gas main reticulation pipeline to Taman Saberkas Jaya establishes a strategic infrastructure platform, paving the way for future expansion of the gas distribution network to surrounding residential, commercial and industrial developments along the Bintulu–Samalaju coastal road.
“These efforts reflect Petros’ broader commitment to increasing statewide domestic gas utilisation from six per cent to at least 30 per cent by 2030, contributing to the state’s long-term energy security and energy transition objectives,” the company said.
The expansion of residential PNG in Bintulu underscores Petros’ mandate as Sarawak’s Gas Aggregator, as the company continues to develop, expand, manage and maintain critical gas and energy infrastructure across the state.
Petros added that it remains committed to advancing a broader gas utilisation agenda under the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR), ensuring the state’s gas resources are progressively translated into inclusive benefits for its people.
