KOTA KINABALU (Dec 4): The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government has never sidelined Sabah’s Chinese community, said Datuk George Teo. The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Kiulu deputy chief said this was proven by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor’s decision to allocate half of the six nominated assemblymen slots to the community. The three Chinese nominated assemblymen are Datuk Chin Su Ying, Datuk Roger Chin, and Grace Li. Teo pointed out that only one out of nine Chinese candidates won in the recent 17th Sabah election, namely Datuk Ben Chong who represented GRS in Tanjung Kapor. “Datuk Ben Chong was also appointed as Assistant Finance Minister.
This proves that Hajiji has never sidelined the role of the Chinese community in Sabah. “The current government now has a sufficiently strong representation from the Chinese community,” he said. Teo also called on the Chinese community in Sabah to continue supporting and cooperating with the state government in implementing the development plans outlined in the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 roadmap over the next five years.
