KUCHING (Dec 22): Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has urged the public to come forward and contribute towards improving facilities at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), following the handover of medical furniture to the hospital today.
He stressed that the hospital, which serves the majority of Sarawakians, deserves a better environment and improved facilities for patients, healthcare workers and visitors alike.
“People should come and see the real situation. The hospital deserves more improvements in creating a better environment — not only for patients, but also for the staff, doctors and family members who accompany them,” he said during the handover ceremony at SGH.
A total of 10 units of link chairs and seven units of treatment recliner chairs were handed over to the hospital.
The contribution was made possible through sponsorships amounting to RM 12,000 from Katimas Sdn Bhd, Acute Project Sdn Bhd, Sharing Planet Sdn Bhd, Megastanda Sdn Bhd, Ori Pasti Ori (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, Alfresco (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, HS Credit Corporation Sdn Bhd, and Wan Li Wan Welding Works.
Wee extended his heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors who supported the initiative.
“This is only possible because of our kind donors. Sometimes in life, it is the simplest thing that makes a real difference,” he said.
He also emphasised that responsibility for the well-being of SGH should be shared collectively, regardless of race or background.
“There are many areas that still need improvement. The more the merrier,” he added.
SGH director Dr Ngian Hie Ung echoed the call for public support, noting that while the hospital receives federal funding annually, the scale of its needs far exceeds available resources.
“Every year, we receive funding from the federal government, but the amount required is actually very huge.
“That is why we sincerely hope everyone will play their role and contribute a little, based on their own capacity,” she said.
Dr Ngian said that collective efforts would go a long way in creating a more comfortable and conducive environment for patients.
