KOTA KINABALU (Dec 12): Four Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates from SMJK Shan Tao, Likas received the Litan Bursary.
Litan Bursary, a philanthropic initiative based in Singapore, was established through the efforts of Rotary Club’s Past District Governor Henry Tan, who informed Assistant Governor Francis Ng and Past President Emily Chong that his friend, Singaporean philanthropist Philip Tan, a Chartered Accountant and Justice of Peace, wished to support deserving Form Five students in completing their studies and achieving success in the SPM examination.
The Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera (RCKS) was entrusted with selecting four exceptional students who will sit for their SPM examination next year.
The bursary recipients are Alden Vun Yuen Fan, Theone Fanny Thane, Flavia Fabiana Incarnasion Delos Santos and Efelyn Su Yi Sumping.
They were chosen based on three key criteria: academic excellence, commendable discipline and genuine financial need, with priority given to candidates from B40 households. Each student will receive a one-year educational grant to help ease the cost of schooling and daily living.
On 1 December 2025, RCKS members led by President Ken Chong and Assistant Governor Francis Ng attended the official presentation ceremony at SMJK Shan Tao.
Prior to the ceremony, the students and their parents signed the bursary agreements, symbolising a significant milestone in the students’ academic aspirations.
Also present at the ceremony were School Principal Elizabeth Mak and Senior Assistant Yee Yip Ngo, whose cooperation and support ensured the smooth implementation of the programme.
Other RCKS members present were Past President Datuk Verus Aman Sham, Past President Christina Aluda and Immediate Past President Dr Richard Gontusan. They were joined by several Form Three students of the school.
